So after I blogged about my top five stationery must-haves a couple of weeks ago, I thought I’d share today’s back-to-school shopping haul. There’s a mix of Wilkos and Poundland goodies here, including a few new things I spotted on my walk around the shops!
These fluorescent stars are from Poundland (yes, all 90 for £1!) and they’re great for using in displays. I have a load of these stuck on my board with key points and facts to remember, and the pupils know to look for them. I also created a display last year (that is going back up) of examples of good maths revision guide/poster sheets that pupils have created, and used these stars to annotate the display with things like “include definitions of key words” and “show worked examples”.
Wilkos scores low on the quirkiness scale this year for cute things for my classroom – maybe it’s just the store I popped into, but the selection of stickers wasn’t great. I did, however, find these little cuties. I have no idea what I’m going to use them for, but I really like them.
I decided to stock up on the Post-Its after this week’s #mathschat:
The packs of felt tips are a trial buy from Wilkos – the large pack of 50 cost £1.50 and the three packs of 15 cost 50p each.
Felt tips are a bit of a classroom essential for me for things like making revision cards, posters or highlighting work. Cheap ones are always touch-and-go, but I’ve had some success with Tesco’s own brand bumper pack pens – these don’t seem to be available online but are available instore, with 50 felt tips costing £3.50. I’d prefer to pay less if possible, so I thought I’d give these ones a whirl for the first half term.
The thick parcel tape is great for layering over displays (borders etc) so it doesn’t all get ripped off by pupils’ bags in the first week!
